Raining harmony

“He draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain to the streams.” (Job 36:27)

Every drop. God knows every single drop that falls from the sky. We don’t think of that when we observe, “It’s raining.” We just think nonchalantly that water is washing down en masse from above. But the Lord has collected those rain drops, gathered them together and purposed them to fall in harmony at a certain time. The Master of Creation, the Great Artist, creates beauty as He waters the Earth. There’s a sublime mystery to it all for sure but I wonder if the visuality of it somehow mirrors His approach to the church. The drops are like His followers, collected together into a thunderous wash, which brings life when they dance and work in harmony.

I am reading through the Psalms at the moment and I can’t get past Psalm 65. It’s so beautiful. Every line drips with truth and reflects God’s love for the individual, for the communities that adore Him, for the world itself: “The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.. You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops.”

Unfortunately many people ignore these blessings from the Lord and so our societies exist in uncertain times. Every day there is talk in political spheres of war and conflict. Yet we have a “high tower,” as it says in several of the Psalms. Jesus once told his followers, “I am the Water of Life.” We don’t need to live in darkness and uncertainty. “Go where the life is,” the Lord whispered to me about a personal situation a few months ago. That’s a truth that holds firm whatever challenge is facing you and I – struggles with health, money, worries about family, getting older, etc. We all have our lists of woes. Wisdom says leave them spiritually by the cross of Jesus Christ and go where the rain comes from, where the spring of life comes from, and right into the arms of the Lord himself. He cares for you.
