You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
(2 Corinthians 3: 2-3)
I am fascinated by the burgeoning growth of readers of this devotional blog. It seems that a type of community is forming of online strangers united by the love of God and committed to understanding what freedom in Christ looks like, and the effect of that liberty on our lives. At the same time, I am aware of the limitations in writing words and how someone receives them: this is just a website! It’s so important to enjoy fellowship too. By which I mean personal friendships with other Christians, whom you care for, and they care about you.
I aspire to write not with “ink,” as this passage from Corinthians says, but in obedience to the Holy Spirit, to encourage you in knowing His love. I must admit, at the same time I am encouraging myself! The ultimate aim isn’t to provide a Bible reading plan, or a handy Christocentric self-help guide, but to provide a platform of integrity to discover hope, to see lives liberated. If you have never heard it before, or remain uncertain, please know this: you are truly loved by God and he has done everything through Jesus for you to freely know him. These aren’t just meaningless, religious words, but reflect simple truth.
I pray today that whether you read words from this devotional, or words from other devotionals, or your own writing, or your own Bible reading and quiet times with God; you will take time to understand from the heart that you are adopted by the Heavenly Father: forgiven for doing wrong, rescued from death, restored as a born-again son or daughter, and gifted a future hope that transcends anything else.
You are a letter of life, being written by Christ himself!
